The Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago quietly opened its renovated first floor on May 9, 2016. Patrons sat down at tables, at computers in the classroom/lab, and in group study rooms; Library and ACCC staff took their stations at the help desk; and Access to Resources staff began relocating from the their lower level temporary work stations.
The renovation project transformed a 23,000-square foot area to significantly increase space dedicated to student study and create more efficient service points for patrons to access librarian assistance and electronic resources. There is a 54-seat classroom/computer lab, group study rooms with display monitors, a silent study room, a research consultation room, lockers, comfortable seating areas, spaces equipped for seminars and informal group meetings, and many amenities.
The renovation project, which included upgrades of the fire alarm system and installation of sprinklers, is almost complete. The café area is still under construction, and other minor items need to be finished. All will be set for the grand opening of the space that is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 24, at 3 p.m.
