The UIC Library is the lead sponsor of a performance by the Sones de Mexico Ensemble on Monday, November 17, at noon, in Student Center East’s Cardinal Room. The program is a musical geography of Mexico, a tour of folk music regions with live demonstrations by the musicians on authentic folk instruments.
Sones de México Ensemble is a non-profit music organization and a sextet of talented musicians with a mission to promote greater appreciation of Mexican folk and traditional music and culture through innovative performance, education, and dissemination.
The lecture/music performance is free to the public. Several campus units are co-sponsors with the Library including the Chancellor’s Committee on the Status of Latinos, the Rafael Cintrón Ortiz Latino Cultural Center, the Latin American and Latino Studies Program, UIC Campus Programs, the Mexican Students of Aztlan (MeSA), and the School of Theatre and Music. The program is made possible in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
