Sandy De Groote, Assistant Health Sciences Librarian (Peoria), has been accepted into the Program Track of the Illinois Immersion program. This is a week-long course provided by the ACRL’s Institute for Information Literacy.
National Student Employment Week will be held April 9-13, 2007. The purpose of this week is to increase public awareness of student employees by recognizing students who work while attending college and by thanking employers who hire students.
Lynn C. Westney, Assistant Reference Librarian, is pleased to announce the publication of her refereed article, “Intrinsic value and the permanent record: the preservation conundrum,” in OCLC Systems & Services: International Digital Library Perspectives, vol. 23, no. 1, 2007, pp. 5-12. The article is available electronically in Emerald Journals.
Apple has issued a security update for Mac OS X, which fixes multiple vulnerabilities. For those who have set their systems to automatically download updates from Apple, you will be prompted to update your system within a week.
If this does not happen please go to the Apple Menu and select “Software Update” to receive this highly critical security update.
The Library has an open journal publishing program using the open source Open Journals System. Three journals are using the software: Behavior and Social Issues, First Monday and the International Journal of Internet Research Ethics. Nancy John will be demonstrating the system for anyone who is interested, in the ELL and on e-rooms, on Wednesday, March 28, 2007 from 2-3 p.m.
Are you an expert in Second Life (the virtual world environment)? or is it something that interests you? Contact Nancy John (aka Bridgman Sands in SL) about attending a real world meeting to share experiences and interests. Once I know if anyone is interested, I’ll schedule the meeting. NOTE: I am no expert. My current research has made me bold enough to try, and I need help!
CARLI reports that it is excited on the number of wonderful candidates that applied to Illinois Immersion ’07, the regional ACRL Immersion Institute for Information Literacy, to be held July 2007.
Space is still available for this program, and applications will be accepted until Friday, March 30, 2007. Online applications must be received by 3 p.m. CST; those delivered by hand or by mail must be received prior to the CARLI office closing at 4:30 p.m. CST. Please use a 9” x 12” envelope so the application is not folded. A waiting list will be established.
