Other status

The Assessment, User Experience, and User Structures councils have requested ongoing updates on a couple of their highest priority initiatives, “Optimizing the Library’s web presence for mobile technology” (Strategic Initiative 8) and a proposed project “One Account (Single Sign-On) for Library Patrons.”

Optimizing the Library’s web presence for mobile technology

Work continued on the second of two projects supporting the redesign of the Library’s web site at library.uic.edu: the Library Web Presence Survey (interview library staff concerning their needs for and use of the library web presence) report was delivered. The limited, “tactical” improvements to m.lib.uic.edu, along with migration of the content and code to our WordPress multi-site server, were completed in August 2015.

One Account / Single Sign-On

Use case development will begin in the fall 2015.

Nalley leaves Library for COM post

Bill Nalley, the Library’s director of advancement since 2013, has accepted a new job as director of development at the College of Medicine as of September 8, 2015.

Bill was instrumental in helping the Library secure major gifts for the Circle Reading Room and for starting the campaign to support the LHS-Chicago renovation. He was also a key organizer for the campus’ 50th anniversary celebration in February 2015, which included the opening of the Circle Reading Room.

Vo receives 2015 Janice Watkins Award

JWA EmblemHenry Vo, library assistant in the Circulation Department, is the 2015 recipient of UIC’s Janice Watkins Award.

The Janice Watkins Award recognizes a Civil Service employee’s outstanding work performance and excellent community service.

The design for the award is based on three interlocking components signifying the unity of students, faculty, and staff that make up the whole of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Each individual group is an inseparable and integral part of UIC, and the circular design reinforces this idea.

Henry will be honored for this award at the annual all-campus employee recognition award ceremony on Tuesday, November 10, at the UIC Forum.
