Lewis leaves the Library

From Fifi Logan:

I am sorry (for us) and happy (for Krystal) to announce that May 15 will be Krystal Lewis‘s last day at UIC.  She has accepted a position at Temple University in Philadelphia.  Our loss is definitely their gain!  Krystal has worked at several University Library locations, and so I wanted to let everyone know that we are throwing a little cookies-and-milk farewell in the reference department offices on May 7, from 11-12.  You are all welcome.

We all wish Krystal much good luck, and we will miss her a ton.

Improve your facilitating skills

Have you ever wanted to facilitate a workshop? Have you ever wanted to offer a memorable presentation? Have you ever wanted to host
your own brown bag discussion?

If so, the Facilitator’s Workout is for you. Sessions will be led by Rebecca Gordon, EdD, Director of the UIC Office of Women’s Affairs. The Library Support Staff Advisory Committee will be hosting two sessions:

Tuesday, May 5,  10 – Noon at Daley.
Thursday, May 7,  2 – 4 pm at LHS.

Registration is required through Library Human Resources, 6-7353.

Attend ALA exhibits

If you are interested in attending the ALA Annual Conference Exhibits, July 11-  14, please contact Library HR, 6-7353 no later than May 21.  Approval from your supervisor and department head is needed.  The Library will have a limited number of exhibit passes available.

Celebrate National Library Week and National Library Workers Day

The week of April 12-18 is 2009’s National Library Week.  This observance celebrates the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide.

On April 14, libraries also celebrate National Library Workers Day, a time to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers. The day’s theme is Libraries Work Because We Do! and focuses on how library services depend on the important work done by every library staff member.

The employees of the UIC Library – 44 faculty, 26 academic professionals, 103 Civil Service employees, and more than 100 student workers in Chicago, Peoria, Rockford, and Urbana – wish everyone the pleasures of reading and learning!

Performance evaluation form now available

This year’s performance evaluation document for faculty and academic professionals is now available online.

The timetable for this process is included in the form’s instructions, but please note that the deadline for final submission of all signed reviews to the University Librarian is June 9. Should you have any further questions, please consult your supervisor or Library Human Resources.
